This race was created to offer fanciers "a lot for a little." For a $100.00 perch fee each bird will be sprayed for parasites and wormed, vaccinated for pox and PMV, treated against trichomoniasis and respiratory, and have their 9th and 10th flights cut and pulled.
Top Feed and Virus Protection
They will be fed excellent feed from the Des Moines Feed Company and receive high quality grit, mineral, and pikstone mixtures from Siegel's Pigeon Supplies. On the advice of Ed Minvielle, we will be using Ecol-Tonic/Citromed to promote health and protect the young birds against viruses.
Bird Training, Exercise and Housing
Each bird will be carefully lofted in and exercised daily, weather permitting, until routing well. Once training starts the birds will be given multiple training tosses from each location. We will start short and move out in small increments until coming good from 80 miles. Some small group tosses will be given.
All birds will be housed in a top quality well ventilated loft. The loft will be scraped and cleaned regularly. Pay 3 perch fees and send a 4th bird free. Free perch fee the following year for any paid bird not going to the 2nd race!
Multiple Chances to Compete and Win
For a $125 race fee, each bird will compete for a chance to win up to $6500.
This is possible by scoring a top position on the 150 mile race, followed by a 1st place on the 250 mile race and a 1st place on the 350 mile race. Payouts based on 172 paid entries going to the 2nd race. Pay 3 race fees and your 4th bird races for free. Your fourth bird is eligible for all prizes!
For more information on prizes see Payouts and Rules.
To time the birds we will be using the Unikon Electronic Timing System. In the event of a large drop of pigeons on race day, our trapping system has been designed to clock many pigeons simultaneously.
