Riverside Cemetery and Conservancy

Riverside Cemetery is a Victorian rural garden, an oasis of greenery and calm in the midst of a bustling, modern Southern city. Visitors are invited to stroll or jog its winding pathways and to gaze upon its rolling landscape, originally fashioned by landscape architect Calvert Vaux, who also designed Central Park in New York City. Monuments and statuary spring from the landscape like a garden of marble and sculpture. Peaceful moments of contemplation and quiet reflection are possible in this picturesque place. As the final resting place of many of Macon’s founding citizens, it is a true city treasure and an underground museum which houses the history of the educators, civic leaders, war heroes, aviators, inventors, and beloved family members who have left us their legacy.
