ROCK MILL PARK
Rock Mill Park is one of Fairfield County Historical Parks. The park is open daily during daylight hours, year-round.
ROCK MILL
The main feature of the park is Rock Mill, a stunning 1824 grist mill, standing 90 feet above the gorge of Hocking River Falls. In the early 1800s, Rock Mill was one of a dozen mills in the area whose power source was the Hocking River.
Recently (2017), the mill was restored to working order. The mill is grinding again for the first time in more than 100 years! During Rock Mill Weekends, members of Fairfield County Forever, our volunteer group, demonstrate grinding methods of the mill and answer questions about the milling process.
Specialty mill-themed items are available in the gift shop – note cards with five scenes of the mill and area, mugs, aprons, prints for framing, more.
ROCK MILL COVERED BRIDGE
Another iconic feature of the park is Rock Mill Covered Bridge. It was constructed in 1901 by Jacob ‘Blue Jeans’ Brandt.. It has queen post trusses. A queen post truss has two vertical queen posts instead of one central king post. As a result, it can span longer openings than a king post; this bridge spans 37 feet. It still sits on its original abutments just above the fall.
ROCK MILL WEEKENDS
From May through October, Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00–3:00 PM, the mill is open to the public and Fairfield County Forever volunteers hold demonstrations of grinding methods.
