We are an open admission shelter accepting all incoming pets from Rockingham County and Harrisonburg City in beautiful Virginia. While our intake radius is limited, we're happy to help out-of-area adopters find their purrfect match! Our staff will be happy to help you through each step our adoption process towards finding your new best friend.

We are proud to provide a humane education program to teach kids and adults of all ages about the plight of homeless pets, animal safety, and the best ways to ensure a long healthy relationship with animals in the home and out. More here: rhspca.org/humane.html

We are active on the civic level to promote legislation that supports our mission. We are proud to have been the engine behind changes to Virginia law so that it now requires outdoor pets to have adequate shelter, and we continue to uphold accountability for the well-being of companion animals and wildlife alike.

As an open admission animal shelter, we accept any pet who comes through our doors regardless of breed, temperament, color, size, health, age, adoptability, or their previous owner’s or finder’s ability to pay for the duration of their stay with us. We do not require an appointment, surrender fee, nor a pre-surrender behavioral assessment. While not every pet we receive is healthy or temperamentally sound, we work with foster homes, limited admission “no kill” rescues, breed-specific rescues, and knowledgeable volunteers and adopters to ensure that as many pets as possible find a home.
