Rockwell Retirement Center

Rockwell Retirement Center has provided the communities of the Susquehanna Valley with charming retirement living since 1988. Mr. Walter M. Strine, Sr., had attended high school in the building, which is now Rockwell Center. When the building became available through a series of events, Mr. Strine purchased it in 1987. He then set about to create his gift of a retirement facility for active, mobile, retirees and a performing arts theatre

The classroom blackboards now serve as distinctive floor tiles and the original brick serves as wainscoting. Throughout the theatre one can find original sconces and the original auditorium chairs were refinished and provide seating for residents and guests in the hallways. Two large crystal chandeliers from the Mariott Hotel in Philadelphia elegantly light the main entrance.

Residents and visitors delight in the Norman Rockwell gallery which is made up of over 300 prints of the famous Normal Rockwell Saturday evening post covers. They are on a rotating display throughout the building, featuring sixty-five prints at one time. Norman Rockwell is the centers namesake as a result of a “nostalgic bug” which transformed Milton’s old school into a unique retirement community.

The Rockwell Center also housed the Grand Candlelight Theatre which was originally the schools auditorium. This space is used to provide entertainment and family activities for our residents.

The Rockwell Retirement Center opened its doors to the first resident in 1989. In a very short time, the changing needs of the residents became apparent. In order to respond to those needs, The Rockwell Center became licensed as a personal care home in 1991.

Personal Care provides for those residents not quite capable of independent living but not requiring the services of a skilled nursing facility. Personal care provides assistance with bathing and dressing, medication management, laundry and housekeeping, access to medical services and social interaction. Encouragement and the needed assistance to develop and maintain maximum independence and self-determination is the mission of personal care.

The Rockwell Retirement Center offers a unique approach to personal care living. We are proud to serve the Susquehanna Valley community.
