More about Rones Chapel Area Community Center

About the Rones Chapel Area Community Center:
Last fall (2015), a group of area residents worked together to establish the Rones Chapel Area Community Center (RCACC) as a non-profit organization with the mission to serve the area with a multi-purpose community center. (We are IRS approved as fully tax- exempt under Internal Revenue Code Section (501(c)(3))

Our vision is to provide a venue for healthy body/mind/spirit activities with emphasis on inclusiveness of the ethnic, racial, cultural, and spiritual diversity of the population of the area. We intend to encourage development of cohesive community. The community center is intended to be multi-generational with programs to serve our entire community over time.

Our intent is to complement and support, not duplicate, what others in our area are doing. In addition to programs we develop, we hope to partner with local non-profits, schools, businesses, and county and state government offices to offer educational and community-oriented opportunities. We’ll be able to host meetings and events as well as disseminate information for others who are providing programs and services to the community.

We were able to lease historic Cobb School thanks to the vision of the Duplin County Board of Education. This circa 1920 one-room school building is located on Highway 403 near the intersection of Rones Chapel Road, NC Highway 403, and Summerlin’s Crossroads Road in the Rones Chapel Community of Duplin County. The location is about 2 miles east of Mount Olive town limits. As part of our overall effort, we have improved and will preserve the building to continue to serve the community.

Our opening date is June 1, 2016. We’ll have a Grand Opening Festival on Saturday, June 18th.

We’re starting with two “anchor” programs:

(1) Free tutoring for students grades K-12. Initially we are seeking to support the learning needs of those who are below proficiency and help close basic skill gaps.

(2) A Wellness program including fitness classes, stress reduction activities, access to blood pressure, blood glucose, and weight monitoring equipment, and educational talks and activities.

If you have any questions about the community center or our programs, please call our Executive Director, Connie Wells, at 919-658-0476 and leave a detailed message with your name and phone number. You can also email RCACC@earthlink.net

The call will be returned as soon as possible. Please remember to leave your call back number in your voice message and to speak slowly and clearly.

Please note: If the call isn't returned within 3 days, please call back again. We've had some issues understanding voice messages left for us, so we appreciate concerned callers to be mindful of this issue. Thank you.
