More about Roseland Village Neighborhood Center

The Roseland Village Neighborhood Center’s four vacant buildings have been approved for demolition, clearing the way for future redevelopment of the property. The purpose of this Facebook page is to provide the public with an online space for discussion and updates on the transformation of the Roseland Village Neighborhood Center.

Jakela Inc. recently won the bid from the Sonoma County Community Development Commission to demolish the former bowling alley, former Albertson's grocery store, warehouse, and gas station. Jakela Inc. will be responsible for the proper disposal of all hazardous materials and properly preparing the land for safe use in the future. Harris and Lee Environmental Sciences LLC will closely monitor the demolition of the bowling alley and ensure that strict environmental standards are met. The demolition phase is expected to start in August 2014 and be completed in October 2014.

This demolition is part of an ongoing effort to revitalize the heart of Roseland, which began in 2005 with the creation of the Sebastopol Road Urban Vision Plan. The members of the community who participated in this visioning effort included residents, business and property owners, public agency staff, and elected officials from the County of Sonoma and City of Santa Rosa. The Sebastopol Road Urban Vision Plan can be viewed and downloaded here:

Although the specifics of the final redevelopment to be constructed at the Roseland Village Neighborhood Center have not yet been established, the Sonoma County Community Development Commission looks forward to transforming the property into a vibrant, mixed-use development with affordable housing, commercial uses, and a public gathering space that is consistent with the Urban Vision Plan. This space will be open to the public for recreational use, community events, and entertainment.

The Sonoma County Community Development Commission will be establishing a project task group and holding open workshops in the coming months to gain the public’s input and suggestions regarding this redevelopment process.
