More about Rotary Club of Brevard

The Rotary Club of Brevard meets every Tuesday at 12:00 PM for lunch at The Phoenix and the Fox, located at 14 South Gaston Street, Brevard, NC 28712. The public is both welcome and encouraged to attend.

The Rotary Club of Brevard is Brevard, North Carolina’s local Rotary International chapter. Rotary International is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. In more than 180 countries worldwide, approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 30,000 Rotary clubs.

The Rotary Club of Brevard specifically strives to serve our community, our country, and our world. The Rotary Club of Brevard is involved in many different local programs, including the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards camp (or RYLA), Back Pack Buddies, the Rotary Youth Exchange program, career days at schools, deliveries of dictionaries to local students, and three road running races that wind their way through beautiful Brevard. Our club also donates to numerous local charities, such as The United Way, the Red Cross, the Animal Shelter, the Transylvania County Sheriff’s SHIELD Camp, and many other worthy groups throughout the year.

Rotary club membership represents a cross-section of the community's business and professional men and women. The world's Rotary clubs meet weekly and are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds.

The main objective of Rotary is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today's most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence. RI is best known for its POLIO PLUS Project, which set out in 1985 to eradicate Polio throughout the world by 2005, the 100th Anniversary of Rotary. This goal was 98% accomplished by 2005, and currently 99% of the world's children are immunized against this dreaded disease. They also support programs for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers, and other professionals, and vocational and career development. The Rotary motto is Service Above Self.
