More about Round Power Aviation

Mike Ascolese, an aviation professional and enthusiast, was born in Brooklyn, New York and grew up watching aircraft fly in, out, and over the city. His initial interest and curiosity regarding the principles of flight were what sparked his interest in aviation.

After graduating high school, Mike went to Los Angeles Trade Technical College. It was there he earned an Associates Degree in Aircraft Mechanics. Since then, he has accumulated not only licenses and ratings, but a wealth of knowledge that is very difficult to come by. Mike Ascolese wealth of knowledge can be seen in the number of ratings he has kept to his name: A&P Mechanic, Inspection Authorization, Arial Applicators License, Airline Transport Pilot, DC 3 Type Rating, B727 Type Rating, & B737 Type Rating.

Mike’s wealth of knowledge about aircraft and aviation is exceptionally abundant. He started his career working with the President of Aero Engines Inc. There, his mastery of engine theory, troubleshooting, and utilization of aviation manuals were his ticket to success.

Since his first job in aviation, Mike has worked for a variety of companies, one favorite being Spain-Air Crop-Dusting. With Spain-Air, Mike would design, build, and repair crop-duster aircraft, as well as fly them. Mike eventual started his own FAA approved Repair Station for aircraft with radial engines called Round Power Aviation.

While Mike has worked and flown numerous Air Carriers, such as being contracted to fly Emery Worlwide 727’s and Futura B737-800 for Ryan International Airlines, Mike’s passion has honed in on Radial Engines and maintaining aircraft.

When not at work, you can find Mike volunteering to preserve and keep antique aircraft airworthy at the Collings Foundation in Stow, Massachusetts. He also enjoys restoring old motorcycles, adding to his collection of running model trains, and of course, spending time with his family.

Mike Ascolese has been enthusiastic about aviation since high school, and still cannot get enough of it. He holds a great wealth of knowledge in the field and is respected and known by many. While at work, you will always find Mike with a smiling face, an aircraft manual, and wearing a baseball cap showing off aircraft or aircraft events he has encountered and been a part of.
