RPI Ballroom Dance

Welcome to the official RPI Ballroom Dance page! Ballroom dancing is a popular and long time favorite choice of many students at RPI. We are the among the largest student-run organizations at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, offering dancers of all skill levels, from the absolute beginner to the seasoned social dancer, a variety of options to have fun and improve their abilities. We hold various lessons of varying difficulty and practices for all types of dance, including lessons specialized in Argentine Tango and Lindy Hop.

RPI Ballroom offers three lesson tracks in addition to the competitive Ballroom Team:
Lindy Hop Swing - Monday nights
Argentine Tango - Monday nights
Ballroom/Latin - Thursday nights


The Ballroom/Latin track has lessons in traditional ballroom dances, like the Waltz and Foxtrot, as well as Latin dances like the Cha Cha and Rumba. You will also have the opportunity to explore nightclub dances like the Hustle, Salsa, and West Coast Swing.

The Argentine Tango track focuses on the truest form of the Tango, offering members a chance to develop the fine subtleties and emotion of what is widely termed the "dance of passion."

The Swing track focuses on the high-energy Lindy Hop and Charleston, stompin' to the hot jazz of the 20th century.

The Ballroom Team focuses on a wider and deeper curriculum of dances in both American and International Styles, competing in several regional DanceSport competitions throughout the year.
