Sabor ~ Spanish for flavor or taste (gusto). "An Artistic and Tasteful Experience" ~

Sabor is a personal chef business. As such, I provide quality, home cooked meals for busy people. I do the shopping, cooking, packaging, and clean up.

In additon, Sabor can provide one time, specialized items for parties/gifts; such as, custom cakes/cupcakes, appetizers, side dish, desserts, pastries, etc. Sabor is also growing a line of Chef Selection Cookies available to you or as client thank you gifts. Sabor can also assist with parties/event in areas of purchasing, prep, cooking/baking, staging, replenishing, clean up....all the areas a host or hostess generally requires help with during an event.

Sabor specializes in Cuban cuisine and teaches Cuban cuisine classes.

Bio:
Elsa Walsh, a first-generation US immigrant, was born in Havana, Cuba and raised on the foods and traditions of Cuban culture. Elsa's mother served as her mentor and inspiration for Cuban cuisine. She grew up eating Cuban food daily; it was the way of everyday life and always present at social gatherings.

When Elsa moved to San Rafael, California from Florida, she missed the Cuban flavors and dishes that shaped her life. She also lost her mother to cancer and her connection to her roots. These life events spurred Elsa to embark on her journey and rekindle her love affair with Cuban cuisine. She strives to recreate the childhood dishes close to her heart and to pass on her heritage to her three children.

“I am often asked about the ‘spiciness’ (heat) of our Cuban dishes. Cuban food is not spicy with heat! Our food is very flavorful, but the dishes I'm presenting will not burn the palate.”

Elsa is currently (since 2012 and continuing as of 2/2014) a Santa Rosa Junior College Culinary Arts student and chef-owner of Sabor in San Rafael, which offers personal chef services featuring Cuban cuisine and tapas as well as custom desserts. She aspires to transform Sabor into Marin County’s only bakery specializing in custom cakes as well as Cuban pastries and deli foods.
