Go to Sal & Mookie’s anytime, and it is packed with families enjoying their expansive menu of incredible pies, all named after New York landmarks and people: The Central Park, Gennaro Lombardi, Empire State, Arthur Avenue (The Bronx), Times Square, Meat Packing District, Riker’s Island, 4-Train, CBGB’s, Hell’s Kitchen, South Street Seaport, and the Gambino to name but a few! “Our pizzas are like no others you have ever tried,” states Jon Pixler, Chef and Head Pizzaiolo (Italian for pizza chef). “All of our toppings are either hand made from scratch, or are the absolute best quality we can buy. Our mozzarella cheese is high fat, whole milk Grande cheese; our tomatoes are imported Italian plum tomatoes and our flour King Arthur. The best ingredients yield the best product!”

In addition to the fantastic pizzas, the Sal & Mookie’s menu offers gourmet grilled Panini sandwiches, classic Little-Italy style pastas and appetizers, huge salads, hot New York submarine sandwiches, and out-of-this-world open flame-grilled hamburgers with names like the Satriale (a combination of ground beef and ground pork), the Statue of Liberty (a true all-American burger), or the Turkey Lurkey (ground turkey and great condiments).

When it comes time for dessert, the choices are overwhelming because Sal & Mookie’s has an entire ice cream parlor right inside the restaurant! Countless flavors of ice cream, sundaes, splits, shakes, malts, and floats tempt the taste buds. Free samples are offered on all flavors and the treats are assembled right in front of guest’s eyes!

Obviously, Sal & Mookie’s is family friendly, but adults are not forgotten in the mix. Too often, family-oriented restaurants serve substandard food, or give substandard service, or are just ‘too kiddy’ in concept.
