Church History
Word of Faith Temple of Jesus Christ began many, many years ago the mind of God, but was manifested over 25 years ago in the mind of Pastor Edward Bonner Jr. As a member of New Holy Cross Apostolic Church where the late Bishop E. Shock was Pastor. Brother Bonner serve on such auxiliaries as the Deacon board, the board of trustees and even a small stint in the choir, he served on the minister’s board faith-fully, and stayed humble until God’s appointed time, that he should be elevated to Pastor Bonner. The Bible says in the book of
1 Peter 5: God resist the proud, but give grace to the humble, humble thyself therefore under the mighty hand of God and he will exalt you in due time.
November of 1985 was God’s due time that Minister Edward Bonner would be
exalted to Pastor Edward Bonner, who took his family and few friends and began the Word of Faith Temple of Jesus Christ. The ministry began its first services in a tiny building on East Grand Boulevard east of Mt. Elliot. The ministry continued there until the Lord saw it necessary to move us to our second location at Gratiot and Belvidere. The ministry continued winning souls and having revivals until the Lord saw fit to move us to our third and largest location at Belvidere and Canfield. At this location we raised up the renound Word of Faith Temple of Jesus Christ choir, who sung tirelessly and faithfully all over the city of Detroit. Our fourth location at 10250 Mack Avenue west of Chalmers, yes is the location where we the Minister of the Gospel was licensed under the Word of Faith Temple of Jesus Christ. However, Pastor Bonner had visions of owning his own building instead of renting. So he began moving by faith seeking pledges from his members to put purchase our next location, but before he could collect all the pledges, God put his stamp of approval upon this vision and provided the money for the down payment. We then moved to our fifth and present location at 13432 E. McNichols where the ministry continues teaching and preaching for the Kingdom of God. In June of 2005, Pastor Bonner was elevated to the level of Bishop Bonner, therefore birthing a outreach ministry in three locations (senior citizen apartments, convalescent homes) called the “Emergency Room Free Will Fellowship” where he has a motto which states, “Where the sick gets seen and they are healed.” It has now been 25 years of ministry and service since the time of conception. Bishop Edward and Minister Betty Bonner we congratulate and honor you for pioneering the way for so many to carry the torch.
