More about San Francisco Public Library Mission Branch

The Mission Branch Library was the first branch in the San Francisco Public Library system. It was opened in 1888 in a storefront two blocks from its present location. The fire following the 1906 earthquake stopped four blocks north of Mission Branch. The current building at the corner of 24th and Bartlett Streets was built under the supervision of architect G. Albert Lansburgh and funded by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie.

So come get a taste of our rich San Francisco history - the Children's Room is located on the first floor of the building. While the second floor houses almost all Adult materials (and Teen too!). Want to pop in quickly and get a DVD? No problem, that's right by the entrance - you'll find plenty of movies and TV shows for your viewing pleasure! We have so much to offer, come by and say hello.
