San Juan Diego Academy is a K-8 Catholic School serving southwest Grand Rapids and Wyoming, MI. San Jan Diego Academy is named for the first indigenous saint of Mexico and the Americas. Juan Diego was canonized in 2002.
Many of the Academy's Kindergarten students enter school speaking and reading little English. By the end of the first year, these students are confident enough in their skills - and themselves - to read Holy Scripture aloud at Mass.
San Juan Diesgo Academy exels in providing an English language-base and interdisciplinary education. More than 78% of its graduating 8th graders compete successfully for placements at the premiere Catholic Central High School.
San Juan Diego Academy is located on the campus of Holy Name of Jesus Church. The church has operated a school in the neighborhood since 1908. Holy Name of Jesus School merged with five other parishes to form the Academy in 2011.
Parishes in partnership with San Juan Diego Academy include:
Cathedral of St. Andrew
St. Joseph the Worker
St. Mary's
Holy Name of Jesus
Our Lady of Sorrows
Shrine of St. Francis Xavier & Our Lady of Guadalupe
San Juan Diego Academy serves between 120 and 145 students annually on a lean budget of just over $500,000, the least of any area school, public or private.
The Academy depends upon private donations for support.
