The San Xavier District, also known as the Wa:k Community, is located approximately twelve miles south of downtown Tucson in Pima County in Southern Arizona. The District encompasses 73,000 acres of arid Sonoran desert characterized by wide valleys, plains, and jutting mountain ranges. The San Xavier District is one of eleven political subivisions of the Tohono O'odham Nation (formerly known as the Papago tribe of Arizona). The District's total population is approximately 2000.
