More about Santa Susana Baseball

Santa Susana Baseball League (SSBB) is the oldest organized youth sports league in Simi Valley and has been shaping the lives of young boys and girls for over half a century – just one year less than the Rancho Simi Recreation & Park District, and seven years longer than the City of Simi Valley.

The league began in 1962 and has grown to include boys who have gone on to play at the highest levels of baseball, including Division I colleges, the highest levels of the minor leagues, and Major League Baseball including current Anaheim Angel pitcher Jered Weaver and San Francisco Giants reliever Dan Runzler. Previous Major Leaguers who came from the fields at Houghton-Schreiber Park include Chuck Crim, Scott Radinsky, Tim Laker and Jeff Weaver. Scott Sharts still holds baseball records at California State University, Northridge, and players such as Jonathan Meyer, Ben Orloff, Dave Milstien and Mike Hankins either played baseball at Division I universities or at the highest levels of the minor leagues – or both. Bryan Anderson played for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2010 and spent the past season in AAA ball. In addition the entire starting lineup of the 2008 C.I.F. Champion Simi Valley High School Baseball team got their start at Santa Susana Baseball League.
