Sarinana's Tamale Factory

OUR HISTORY

Juan and Felipa Sariñana, a young couple who immigrated to the United States from Mexico’s state of Durango. In 1921, the couple would arrive to the city of Santa Ana with their eldest daughter Josefine. The couple expanded their family and went on to have one more daughter and two sons: Jenny, Seferino “Chefy”, and Salvador “Sal”. Upon their arrival they decided to sell tamales. Felipa began cooking tamales in their small home, and Juan would travel into different neighborhoods of Orange County (Colonia Artesia Pilar, Colonia El Modena, Colonia Juarez) to sell his wife‘s home cooked tamales. As the years passed Don Juan Sariñana began to build a small restaurant on fifth street in Santa Ana. The family went on to build a legacy located at 2218 W. 5th Street in Santa Ana. To the menu they incorporated their homemade tamales, menudo, and tacos. All recipes were created in the traditional style of Durango, where the family originated. As their kids grew up they all helped in the family business. After the death of Felipa in 1967 and Juan in 1968 the family business would be passed to their eldest daughter Josefine Sariñana and her husband Alexander Salcido. Josefine and Alex would have three sons Bob, David, and Fred. The couple’s youngest children Fred and David helped run the family business.

In 1985, Fred Salcido passed the shop to his older brother Bob Salcido and myself Teresa Nieves. My former husband and I would have two sons Robert and Aaron Salcido. Fast forward about 30 years, the small family investment that began in 1939 is seeing its’ fifth and sixth generation.

I would like to take this time to thank our customers throughout the years for your support and blessings.

Furthermore, I would like to dedicate this letter to my family my husband Isaias Nieves, my son’s Robert Israel and Aaron Alexander, my lovely daughters Erika Marie and Kariana Yanett. Without this support group, nothing would be possible.
