More about Scotchman's Cove

SCOTCHMAN'S COVE lies within Crystal Cove State Park at Reef Point. This cove has always been referred to as Scotchman's cove by divers. In the park's own literature they still call it Scotchman's Cove, but you don't see it indicated anywhere else at the park. So, if you are looking through an older dive guide (even some newer ones) and they talk about Scotchman's Cove, this is the place.

There are several reef systems that extend many hundreds of yards off shore and some have remarkable topography. There are small walls and many cracks and crevices to keep a diver occupied.

Scotchman's Cove is located off Pacific Coast Highway between Corona del Mar and Laguna Beach, California. Access the cove at Reef Point. There are three access points to the beach. A quarter mile multi-use trail travels to the north and descends down to the beach at 3.5 Cove. A stairway delivers you to the popular Scotchman's Cove and to the south, a ramp travels down to Muddy Creek, an excellent body surfing area.

Crystal Cove State Park features three miles of Pacific coastline, plus wooded canyons, open bluffs, and offshore waters designated as an underwater park. Crystal Cove is not just used by people who enjoy water related activities, such as swimming, surfing, sunbathing, scuba and skin diving, but also people who like to fish, mountain bike and hike.
