The Scotia Child Enrichment Center is a community of learners where children and educators explore the world together. Children gain knowledge and develop skills in a play-based, child centered environment. A play-based curriculum—inspired by the educational and developmental theories of Piaget, Vygotsky, Dewey, and Malaguzzi—encourages children to explore and experiment with their surroundings. Children then construct their own knowledge from their play. The curriculum at the Enrichment Center is based on the children’s interests and structured by educators. Teachers provide a variety of experiences based on the interests and development of each individual child as well as the group as a whole. This curriculum integrates constructivist curriculum with a strong consideration for the child’s development as a thinking, feeling and social individual.
