More about Sea Star Base Galveston

At Sea Star Base Galveston, as a non-profit foundation, our mission is to provide a high-adventure marine and maritime destination that offers aquatic education programs to instill lifetime leadership, teamwork skills, and independence in body, mind and spirit.

Because we cater to all outdoors enthusiasts, including school groups and higher educational facilities, other non-profit and environmental organizations, individuals, veterans, those with disabilities and corporate groups, and the scouting community, we offer a variety of programs.

Firstly, our marine and maritime educational program is BaySmart. Using our 100-foot floating classroom, the BaySmart Express, we deliver Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)- based curriculum to connect what students are learning in the classroom with the real life marine and maritime world.

Our second program is the Galveston Community Youth Sailing Center. This is a U.S. Sailing-sanctioned Community Sailing Center, and offers memberships for individuals and families. The emphasis of the Youth Sailing Center is teaching sailing to younger and disabled individuals.

The third leg of our mission is a partnership with the Bay Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. We have developed a unique high adventure Scouting program. This includes our five-night Nautical Adventure and our three-night Privateer Adventure. These programs are open to Scouts from all over the country, and let them experience a number of sailing and aquatic excursions.

One way we support these initiatives is by making the facility available for rentals when we do not have programs. Our new facility overlooks Offatts Bayou, and features a 3,600-square-foot banquet hall, breakout rooms, cafeteria, chapel and lodging, making us a prime option for hosting meetings, conferences, banquets and similar events.

We believe that water is a pathway to independence and want all participants to leave us feeling that way as well. Our Scout participants come away with a sense of accomplishment by learning how to sail and kayak. Our BaySmart participants are introduced to the marine and maritime world, which in turn will educate them about endless possibilities of a career on the water. Finally, our community sailing participants, especially the disabled sailors, gain a newfound independence by mastering their own vessel on the water.

No matter what type of event or program you’re interested in, we look forward to helping you, and sharing more about the exciting events and activities we offer.
