Local high schools have removed many of their trade-based skill programs due to budgetary concerns. Our educational program teaches young men and women boating and vocational skills and is based on an apprenticeship model in which youth engage in boat handling and maneuvering and boatbuilding and maintenance, including carpentry and metal working, electrical, engine, and fiberglass repair.

Our program also teaches knot work, competitive sailing, and requires a great deal of physical activity. Throughout this program, young adults gain an applied knowledge of physics, geometry, navigation, meteorology, and maritime history, as well as a practical understanding and hands on experience of safe operation of power and sailing vessels.

We pair these tangible skills with life skills such as responsibility, leadership, teamwork, discipline, and integrity and also educate on the dangers of water safety, carbon monoxide poisoning, drowning, and the effects of drugs and alcohol in safe boat operation.
