Seattle Reproductive Justice Coalition

The SEATTLE REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE COALITION
is a democratic coalition of groups and individuals committed to boldly demanding free, accessible and safe abortion and contraception – on demand and without apology. We denounce terrorist attacks on reproductive service providers. We oppose forced sterilization and other racist, eugenicist efforts. We emphasize the needs of parents of color, poor and working-class women, and LGBTQI families.

Reproductive justice, a term initiated by Sistersong, "links sexuality, health, and human rights to social justice movements by placing abortion and reproductive health issues in the larger context" of class, gender, sexual identity and transgender oppressions. Reproductive justice includes prenatal care, paid parental leave, birthing and breastfeeding choices, affordable childcare, culturally sensitive and non-discriminatory adoption, high-quality foster care, and comprehensive sex education.

We call for repeal of the Hyde Amendment and so-called “conscience clauses” for medical providers. We demand full public funding of social programs, affirmative action, and an end to the gender wage gap. We seek collaboration and communication among groups working on these issues in order to build a powerful, grassroots movement capable of turning back the rightwing assault on women and other oppressed and marginalized people. We want to bring the movement for reproductive justice back where it began – in the streets to demand control of our bodies and lives!
