More about Service Animal Project

Service Animal Project (SAP) was founded in March of 2012. Our purpose and passion is to save shelter animals and aid wounded active service people and veterans. We have partnered with K9s for Warriors in Ponte Vedra, Florida. This organization trains service dogs to be paired with active military and veterans who suffer from Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and/or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Part of K9s’ mission is to use 95% shelter/rescue dogs and provide them to these warriors free of charge. Our part of this process is to select and evaluate dogs who have the potential to become a service animal. We are all volunteers and almost all of our funds go toward training and transport. The cost for assessment and transport per dog cost about $400.00. We do spend a lot of time and money to assure that the dogs we select are successful. K9s has told us how much they appreciate our consistently bringing them the highest quality dogs. In fact, K9's Director of Training said of Winston, the very first dog we took down, “I don’t know what it took for you to bring Winston to us, but he will be life-changing for a warrior.”
As of September 2015, 65 SAP dogs have been accepted by K9s - 41 graduated dog and warrior partnerships , with 4 in the current warrior class and 14 dogs in training awaiting their warriors.
We cannot rescue these dogs who are life-changing for these warriors without financial support. Please consider a financial donation to allow SAP to continue our mission. Donations should be made out to "Service Animal Project” and sent to Service Animal Project, PO Box 367, Lynn, NC 28750.
