Seven Steeples Farm at Central Greens

Seven Steeples Farm at Central Greens site once housed the Central State Hospital, formerly the only psychiatric treatment facility in Indiana. It opened in 1848, the hospital experienced significant growth and offered impressive grounds and
buildings, including two massive and ornate buildings, used as dorms for male and female patients. By the mid 1900's,the buildings had begun to be deteriorate. In the early 1970's, the largest and most ornate, Victorian-era buildings were declared unsound and razed. The hospital was closed in 1994. The grounds have stood, largely vacant as of 1999.

In 2005, the City of Indianapolis issued a request for proposals to redevelop the Central State site. The contract for master developer was awarded to Central
Greens, LLC, a partnership between Development Concepts, Inc., and Garcia Construction.

When complete the Central Greens development will transform the 150 acre site into a mixed use neighborhood that will allow residents to live, work, and play all within walking distance. The Development Plan calls for well designed new retail, residential, recreation and educational components, Central Greens will be a major
catalyst for the revitalization of the city’s Near West Side.

This site is one of the last tracts of mostly open land available for development in central Indianapolis. It is strategically located in the heart of numerous near West side neighborhoods, with more than 40,000 residents. The site is 5 minutes away from Downtown and the Central Business District, the main campus of Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), and the International Motor Speedway.

At its southern edge is Washington Street, a stretch of the Historic National Road and one of the city’s primary Streets.
