I am a fine-art nature and landscape photographer, and I strive for simplicity in my photos. To me, images pared to their most basic elements hold the most power. I also strive to evoke emotion in everything I shoot. As a writer, I appreciate every photograph’s ability to speak without words.
Because I see a personality in everything that grows and blooms, flowers are among my favorite subjects. I think of my flower and tree photographs as portraits.
I’m also drawn to pastoral landscapes. I live near Baltimore in a once-rural town that is losing the battle against suburban sprawl, and I enjoy capturing what’s left of “the country” in the area I call home. I’ve watched the scenery change as my family has grown and changed, and I take comfort in documenting those parallel worlds with my camera.
Most of all, I love finding art in everyday life — celebrating often-unnoticed details that, when isolated with a lens, show us something we haven’t seen before. I believe there’s far more angel than devil in the details.
