Field Trips -
Several times each year our members get together for a trip to a new or old collecting area for rocks and minerals. We encourage our members to let new and old members know when a trip is planned. New members who are not familiar with field trips need to know that you are ON YOUR OWN on these trips. You should ask questions regarding the difficulty and tools you will need (ie camping gear, hammers, etc.) as some young children, dogs, etc. may not make your trip a good experience depending upon the location.

The BLM is always changing rules on collecting in some areas. We try to have the latest rules on our website as soon as they are avialable. Some times wey may go to a so-called “PAY DIG”, a private mine and they usually have other rules of conduct you must adhere to. SGMS FIELD TRIPS are considered personal outings and are not actually conducted by or sponsored by the club. Insurance does not cover these field trips as they are not club-sponsored activities. Please don’t let this scare you in any way, our members always have a lot of fun at these outings and usually bring home many excellent specimens that qualify as SHOW-OFF pieces so come along with us!
