Shoals Area Families

Shoals Area Families was formed to assist local familiess with a bill, to give them a way to give back and to train them with a new skill that will hopefully break the cycle of poverty.

We SAF opened a thrift store to help fund the foundation. We have a 6,000 sq ft building where we take donations, process items, and sale the merchandise.

The people we assist must qualify first and if we have funding we can help with a bill. However, we aren't giving away free money. All the families we help are required to join our "give back program". For every $100 we pay in bills, they are required to volunteer 4 hours at our thrift store. As we work with the families, we get to know them- hear their story. We find that about 95% of them do not even have a GED. They are also reguired to write a budget, learn how to fill out job applications, write a resume, and learn interview skills. SAF then helps them write goals for their future. One person at a time- above the poverty line.

SAF is a member of the Community Service Council and uses SEANTracker to keep up with assistance each person has received from other agencies. We depend 100% on private donations and are filing for 501C3.

Unlike large charity organizations, With SAF- you can see where your donations go to- in our local community. We tell the stories of our families and sometimes a photo. Each day we are asking for donations for a new family that needs help or faces losing their home, sleeping in the cold or worse: families being separated and children being placed in foster homes.

Unfortunately, poverty is not going away- but imagine being a part of something that can change one person’s life. We do it daily.u can see where your donations go to- in our local community.
