More about Sierra Station

The Sierra Station was established in 1977 and has transformed into a favorite Grosse Pointe Park family destination. The Sierra Station prides itself as a family-style Mexican restaurant, offering an affordable dinner in a relaxed urban setting. It is one of the few places you can sit down, eat authentic Mexican food, have a Margarita and let your kid run around.

Jeff Lee purchased The Sierra Station from the original owner in 1987 after working as a bartender for many years. By 1999, the building had gone untouched for 24 years and it was a time for a change. He remolded the bar area, added another kitchen and built a beautiful outdoor veranda that is full of flowers, equipped with a bar and seating area. As you step into a South of the Border atmosphere, the walls are filled with original Mexican artwork, masks and numerous decorative mirrors.

Most impressive, is the food! Few restaurants survive 34 years unless they have great food. The Sierra Station has consistently offered quality meals and created one of the most diverse Mexican menus available. The entrée menu features more than 30 dishes most served with the standard rice and beans. House specialties are the Verda Sauce and the Chili Relleno. Other unique entrée are the Mexican Lasagna, Almond Chicken Burrito and the Ranchero Mole De Pollo Enchilada.

The Sierra Station has been a main stay in the Grosse Pointe area, serving customers for 34 years. The consistency in its food and service comes from its loyal staff. 90% of the Sierra Station staff has been employed over 15 years. This allows the Sierra Station to maintain a modest price structure to ensure families can afford a great dining experience. Like the advertising says, ‘Why go Downtown?'
