Sign of the Mermaid Restaurant now owned by Deon and Dee Mattheus, welcomes you to Breakfast/Lunch and Dinner.

No changes will be made to the menus and you will still experience excellent fine dining as always.

The famous delicious pies will also be available. Same recipes!!

Sign of the Mermaid also specializes in small weddings and parties of all kinds. Please contact us regarding your plans for wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners and parties.

Please bear with us while we are Landscaping in front of our Restaurant. The old tree fell over and damaged our signs. We have commissioned an artist to create new signs for us.

Interesting History

In 1992, The Mermaid Restaurant opened in the Royal Palm Cottage on Gulf Drive. At first sparsely advertised, the vintage Florida cottage became the best known secret on the island. Famous for fresh seafood, steaks and homemade desserts in a cozy and casual atmosphere, this eatery is a must for anyone visiting Anna Maria Island.

The Mermaid was owned by long time island resident Ed Spring and his daughters, Kellie and Serena. They carefully restored the 1913 cottage to its former glory. Dinner was served seven days a week, while breakfast and lunch were served Wednesday thru Sunday, with great brunch on Sunday.

The menu boasted Florida's freshest seafood selection and emphasized on local produce, meats and dairy. The previous owner loved to travel the back roads and small markets of Florida , searching out the best the Sunshine State had to offer, from Plant City strawberries to Myakka and Parish Produce.

In 2007, 2010 and again in 2013, The Mermaid won Best of Show at The American Pie Council's Crisco National Pie Championship and First Prize in 2008. We offer our prize winning pies for sale whole or by the slice. Also sure to please is an interesting wine list that's priced just right.
