More about Siskiyou Humane Society Adoption Center

Founded in 1968, the Siskiyou Humane Society is the largest shelter in Siskiyou County. We provide rescue and refuge to more than 1000 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens annually. We offer free and low-cost spay/neuter assistance as well as vaccinations, nutrition advice, behavior education and training tips for low-income families. We reach out to hundreds of youths and adults through humane education programs, and we work with local service agencies to provide assistance and support in animal welfare related matters. We have developed successful kitten foster programs as well as a foster to adopt puppy program. Our Behavior Program uses positive reinforcement to bring out the best in pets. Training can be the difference that helps an animal find a loving home. We also help human companions have better relationships with their furry soulmates. We want pets and people to be happy in their homes.

Siskiyou Humane Society has no time limit on how long a needy animal may remain at our shelter. A pet remains available for adoption as long as is needed to find a loving home. If a pet needs medical attention, SHS provides the same level of care your own pet would receive. In addition to having their basic needs met, shelter animals benefit from behavior training sessions, regular exercise, grooming and they are loved, cuddled and socialized by employees and volunteers during time spent waiting for their “forever homes.”

We are also fortunate to be participants in the Oregon Humane Society’s “Second Chance” program, which picks up dogs and cats from our facility on a regular basis to be rehomed in Portland. When animals are approved by OHS to enter “Second Chance,” we do not have to spend our own limited funds on spay/neuter, vaccinations and veterinarian check-ups because those services are provided through their on-site Veterinary Residency Program. Our participation in this wonderful program allows us to find many more “forever homes” and to find them much more quickly than we would be able to accomplish working independently.
