Sisters Returning Home began a pen pal relationship with a number of women who were identified as residing in the 19144 zip code in 2009. We followed up on our pen pals with visits to Muncy Prison to further encourage communication. In addition to those women who were preparing to leave, we began working with a few women who were recently released from Muncy Prison. We provided them with welcome home baskets, referrals to a number of available resources and opportunities to contribute through volunteerism in the community. By providing guidance, friendship, and a stern but loving relationship with the women, we feel Sisters Returning Home will be a catalyst for other mentoring programs throughout the city and state.
