Now in its sixth year serving Swedish Meatballs with Lingonberries to the movers and shakers of Wall Street, the original Smorgas Chef location’s yellow facade has become a beloved fixture on the lively row of bars and restaurants that line the block.
Summer is the peak season when the entire street turns into a beach town, where guests dine and drink outdoors at wooden communal tables with candles and parasols. Wintertime is warm and cozy at Smorgas Chef, which features exposed brick walls, landmarked European floor-to-ceiling windows and paintings by Scandinavian artists. Smorgas is frequented by not only Wall Street professionals, but also local families who have recently taken up residence in the neighborhood.
Stone Street offers the most spectacular outdoor dining in Manhattan, with the street is closed to cars and traffic, the cobblestones are filled with boisterous din of spirited diners.
In addition to seasonal specials, the restaurant offers a daily three-course prix-fixe menu, and a popular bar menu with happy hour, which includes Smorgas sliders, and Nordic Chips with caviar dip. Recent renovations expanded the restaurant’s seating capacity with the creation of a semi-private back lounge/seating area and a birch tree sculpture facing South William Street.
