Why Are Snacks a Great Metaphor for Social Media?

1. Snacks help you get through your day.

Snacks provide nourishment that can help you get through your day in the same way that social media provides nourishment to help your business accomplish its goals. Your product and brand are the meals which social media helps to support and maintain.

2. Snacks are delicious.

We eat snacks because they taste good. We engage on social media because we enjoy what we see. As a business it is important that you publish content (snacks) that your fans are going to enjoy.

Tip: Don’t be the kid who brings broccoli to snack time. (Unless your company is selling broccoli, in which case it would be very appropriate.)

3. Snacks are diverse.

Whether it’s pretzels, cookie dough or hummus- everyone has their snack of choice. This is important to remember because the snacks that I like are going to be different than the snacks JoeBob likes. The goal of your business is to figure out which snacks will most appropriately represent who you are and what you do.
