Soc 119 is more than a college class; it's an experience in critical thinking. It's an environment that encourages people to think about social issues in unexpected and fresh ways.
Since the Fall 1991 semester, Sam Richards has been prodding Penn State students to go beyond whatever it is that they have come to believe is expected of them. His only goal is to help young people to think about and act in the world on their own terms. He's been called "a human alarm clock for 18-year-olds" and the "father or radical empathy" for his ability to inspire, surprise, and irritate in equal measures.
