About us

Sorella Gelateria is a small, locally owned gelato shop located in Lexington, KY specializing in hand crafted, small-batch Italian gelato and sorbetto. Sorella was established by two sisters, Alma Kajtazovic and Selma Sulejmanagic and is Lexington’s first artisan gelato creation. The sisters always wanted to combine their love of culinary arts and business experience. Their love of gelato began in their childhood and they decided to create experience in Lexington. The sisters decided to name the shop Sorella, which means sister in Italian.

Selma traveled to Cervignano del Friuli, in Northern Italy where she learned and perfected the art of making gelato. While Selma was in Italy, Alma worked on their business plan. She found a perfect location – old historic building located on North Limestone.

Our Philosophy

Our gelato and sorbetto are made daily, from scratch using fresh and high quality ingredients hand picked by Selma. We are committed to serving fresh gelato every day so we make our gelato onsite each morning in small-batches, one pan at a time and our goal is to sell it by the end of the day. This way we give our customers the highest quality gelato. We offer traditional Italian flavors such as hazelnut while pleasing the local community taste with bourbon ball gelato.

We source our ingredients from the local farmers and grocery stores. There are no artificial flavors, sweeteners or preservatives used in our gelato. In addition to supporting the local economy, many of our ingredients are imported from Italy creating authentic and traditional taste.

Supporting community and giving back is an important part of Sorella’s philosophy. We support local nonprofits by creating a flavor dedicated to a selected charity.
