Souper Bowl 5k

Held to benefit the His Daily Bread Community Soup Kitchen in Coats, this event promises a bowl of soup to all finishers.

Last year, over 230 runners and walkers signed up for this race.

Doug Howard led the pack in 20:48. Lindsay Usher led the women with a new women’s course record of 22:35. Brian Fowler holds the men’s course mark of 16:59 set in 2014.

The race starts and finishes at the Coats Senior Center located at 214 East Park Street in Coats.

Entrants in the 5K have a choice of entering as a competitive or recreational runner. Competitive entrants will receive an official time and be eligible for awards. Recreational entrants will not receive official times, but can either time themselves or see their times on the digital clock at the finish line.

The ½-Mile Kids Dash is free and will begin at 3 pm.

The entry fee for the 5K is $25 up to and including January 24. After that date, the fee is $30 up to and including race day. The entry fee includes a t-shirt, guaranteed to all those entered by January 18th. After that date, it will be “as available.”

Awards will be presented to the first three males overall, to the first three females overall, to the first three masters of each sex overall, and to the top three finishers in each of the following age groups: (both sexes) 12-under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60-over.

This year the Souper Bowl 5K is also the first race in the 2016 Second Empire Grand Prix. All those who finish the race as competitive 5K entrants are automatically entered in the Grand Prix.
