South Carolina Fair Housing Center

The SCFHC is a non-profit, civil rights agency founded by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) with the support of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity as a part of its Fair Housing Initiatives Program. We have been established to enforce the federal Fair Housing Act throughout the entire state of South Carolina.

As such, our mission and purpose entail enforcement of fair housing laws across the state of South Carolina. This encompasses, in part, testing, as well as community education, outreach, training, promotion of best practices, and expanding fair lending resources into underserved communities. Summarily, we strive to “promote fair housing laws and equal housing opportunity awareness.”

To aid in our enforcement activities, we make extensive use of fair housing testers. For purposes of education and outreach, our staff travels across the state on a continual basis, to provide information to the community regarding fair housing, what it means, its affect, as well as assessing the presence of fair housing discrimination, providing service to all counties. Additionally, fair housing training is available to individuals or groups. Such groups can include various companies and corporations, realtors, banking institutions, housing providers, non-profit organizations, etc.

Complaint intakes regarding issues of fair housing discrimination are accepted between the hours of 9:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. South Carolina residents wishing to complete an intake with our office may call 1 (855) 665-8549 during these hours. Walk-ins are also welcome.
