We are dedicated to continuing the art of karate in financially challenging times. Our training fees are collected on a per monthly basis. We do not utilize financially binding contracts.

The sustained good health and safety of our students is a primary concern at SSSKD. We forbid full contact fighting, strive to achieve controlled fighting techniques, and utilize sparring gear, including gloves and mouth-guards. Additionally, we carry liability and accident insurance from Martial Arts Group Inc.: https://www.igomag.com

**HISTORY OF OUR ART**

Shotokan Karate is the most widely studied form of Japanese Karate across the world. It was officially started by Master Gichin Funakoshi (1922) in Tokyo, Japan. Shotokan has a strong heritage of discipline, carefully researched techniques, and rankings. The International Karate Daigaku (IKD) is an organization headed by Master Frank Woon-a-tai, a former ISKF Chairman and 8th degree blackbelt who resides in Toronto, Canada. Master Woon-a-tai established the IKD in 2011 to ensure that the original teachings of Master Funakoshi would be carried on to further generations.

**INSTRUCTORS**

Marc Cordice, Chief Instructor of the South Sound Shotokan Karate Club, holds a 7th degree black belt and has been continually active in Shotokan Karate since 1970. Originating from the Caribbean, he is one of the fortunate few who grew up in karate, training directly under the Japanese masters: Sensei Okazaki, Yaguchi, Mikami, Takeshina, and even the late Chief Instructor of the Japan Karate Association, Master Masatoshi Nakayama.

Ted Santos, a 3rd degree blackbelt with over 20 years of practice, is Assistant Chief Instructor ("Senpei") and club president. Ted is orginally from the Phillipines and served in the U.S. Army for 27 years.

Matt Kilgore is a 2nd degree blackbelt with over 10 years of experience. He is a registered nurse and holds a Master of Science in Nursing degree from Pacific Lutheran University. He assists with teaching and is the club vice president.
