My Philosophy of Medical Care

For over 20 years of medical practice I have found that the one thing my patients desire most is staying well. Nearly everyone that we see has been sick for so long or so frequently that it is substantially interfering with normal everyday life. People are tired of being sick and having to go to the doctor over and over. They are tired of taking medications that only give temporary relief before they are sick all over again.

This is where we come in. Our practice is designed almost completely around prevention. Our goal is to try and determine as accurately as possible the underlying causes of your medical conditions and treat these instead of just giving you short-term relief.

Nearly every medical condition has at its core some alteration or dysfunction of the immune system. 25 years ago the field of immunology was in its infancy, now it has become the single most important field of medicine since all medical disciplines are finding the immune system is at the core of most disease processes. Though all physicians now have some training in the immune system, only the specialty of Allergy/Immunology trains its physicians so that their foundation for care is the immune system. It is only in this field of medicine that its physicians are designated as Immunologists.

I use the extensive training that I have in this field to determine why people have the medical problems they have and then work to transform their underlying tendencies back toward normal function and wellness. This is done through a variety of techniques including alteration of the environment, change in lifestyle or diet and a variety of therapeutic treatments through allopathic (traditional medicine) and naturopathic (based on nature) treatments while still working to make therapy affordable and safe.

As a consultant I will not be able to provide all medical care for you or your child in the future because of the demand for me to help other people with similar problems; however, I have a nurse practitioner, Dwight Polivka, who I have known for 20 years and has been working with me for several years. Dwight is an excellent clinician and we share the same philosophy and understanding of allergic disease. Dwight sees patients in follow up who need ongoing care for their medical condition. He communicates with me constantly about follow up patients if there are questions or concerns that he needs help with. Patients can request visits with me at times to do follow ups but my time to do this is limited.

We work hard to try and keep your primary care physician up to date with our findings so they may help more appropriately when episodes of illness inevitably occur in the future; however, the most important caregiver in the future will be you. Our goal is to equip you to be the best provider of your own medical care. The better you understand your own or childrens's medical condition the better you will be in the future to care for yourself both through preventative care and when acutely sick. Our goal is to equip you to be the best provider of your own medical care.
