Southern Tech opened in August 1966 as one of the first rural Career and Technology Centers in the state. More than 50 years later, Southern Tech continues to provide exceptional education and training services to its customers.Students in full-time program majors, adult career and development classes, and business/industry clients all benefit from Southern Tech’s state-of-the-art equipment, modern classroom facilities and highly qualified instructors. Curriculum is competency based with a focus on trade specific certification attainment. In addition, some programs offer AP level high school credit and Dental Hygiene is aligned with a bachelor’s degree program through the University of Oklahoma.Earning nationally recognized certificates such as the Work Keys Career Readiness Certificate is a main goal for all Southern Tech students. Through ‘Tech Centers That Work’ (TCTW), Southern Tech is charting the academic course for students by helping them improve math, reading and writing scores while providing a solid foundation of employability skills.Southern Tech’s award winning Biotechnology program is partnered with the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation research laboratories and the Oklahoma State University Institute for Agricultural Biosciences. This collaboration allows for a high school learning experience that is quite exceptional.Additional programs have been added to meet the needs of area employers and provide training in engineering-related fields. New this year, is a two instructor Pre-Engineering program targeted to prepare high school juniors and seniors for successful entry into university schools of engineering. Other related programs address the needs for precision machining, computer aided drafting, computer aided manufacturing, computer numerical control programming, welding, robotics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and programmable logic controllers, just to name a few.The service industry is well represented with programs in many aspects of health, building trades, transportation repair, computer applications, cosmetology and many more.
