The Southside congregation in Rogersville, AL was established in the 1930’s by the late great brother Marshall Keeble. Under the pulpit leadership of faithful men such as T.W. Rucks, John Pruitt, Easome Foreman, Prince Barnes, Jerry Lankford, and LaChy Jolly, the Southside church remained a stable force throughout the north Alabama area for many years. However, the congregation did experience some hard times and lean years in which the membership dwindled to about six faithful members.
At the verge of extinction, through much prayer and the perseverance of a faithful sister (Jessie Lee Fuqua), God saw fit to call Brother Freeman Malone Jr. to this honorable work. For over 30 years of divinely guided leadership, Bro. Malone has revitalized and strengthened this church into becoming that beacon light for all the world to see.
Through his tenure, Bro. Malone has grown this work to over 150 faithful members. He has, over the years, developed many for ministry and leadership that have gone forth as preachers, teachers, ministers of music, and youth directors throughout our brotherhood.
The Southside Church of Christ is now known throughout the brotherhood for it’s unwavering stand and support of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is well recognized for it’s benevolent spirit of helping those in need. It has been a model for dynamic and sincere praise and worship. The Southside church continues to follow the example of the first century church in Jerusalem. Acts 2:42, "They continued steadfastly in the apostles doctrine and in fellowship and breaking of bread and in prayers." Vs. 42, "Praising God and having favor with all the people and the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved."
