Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology

W.G. Skelly founded Spartan in 1928 because he believed air transportation would come of age and bring a need for skilled aircraft technicians and pilots, and he was right! Thanks to its learn-by-doing teaching philosophy, Spartan quickly became a leader in aviation education, standing out from other aviation schools and programs.

Spartan’s motto, “Knowledge and Skill Overcome Superstition and Luck,” is exemplified by the Spartan Black Cat and the number 13. The insignia dates back to the beginning of the Dawn Patrol in 1929. The name was resulted from flight schedules that began at the crack of dawn. During these early flights, the members of the aviation programs performed precision formation flying. At Spartan College, students knew that it was not an option to rely on superstition and luck; the skill and knowledge gained at Spartan was paramount to their success.

The programs offered at Spartan College are designed to help prepare students for careers in the aviation industry. With the help of a Spartan education, students can explore career opportunities in aircraft maintenance, aviation electronics technology, nondestructive testing, quality control and aviation management.

Even though times have changed, the same spirit of "Knowledge and Skill Overcome Superstition and Luck" still remains an underlying theme for all programs and instruction at Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology.
