Historical Archives: Spears Creek Baptist Church is among the oldest churches in Central South Carolina. However, the exact date of its organization has been in dispute in the past. In the Fairfield Association minutes for 1920 it was indicated that the church was organized in 1782. But in the minutes of 1930 it is stated that the building, made of wood and seating 250 people, was erected in 1780. Spears Creek church first appeared in the minutes of the Columbia Association in 1858 and no previous association activities were indicated. It was transferred from the Columbia Association to the Fairfield Association, and appeared first in the minutes of Fairfield in 1871. The Columbia Association and the Salem Association were united in 1863 and became Fairfield.
