We're an open, friendly, and welcoming Episcopal parish in the Merle Hay neighborhood of Des Moines, IA. Our members come from a wide variety of backgrounds both religious and secular, which creates a wonderful mix for our parish.
St. Andrew's has a strong desire for social justice and to do God's work in the world. We express this desire in many ways:
• We do outreach into the communities of refugees from Sudan and South Sudan (both Christian and Muslim) and offer worship and gathering space to these groups.
• We reach out to those in need through food pantry collections, knitting scarves/hats/gloves for the homeless, donating platters of cookies to homeless shelters at Christmas time and by "adopting" various organizations which help the needy.
• St. Andrew's has several parishioners who are members of the GLBT community and the church participates in the Capital City Pride Parade held every June.
• We strive to leave as small of on ecological footprint as we can by using efficient lighting, regulating heat, recycling, using sustainable landscaping, and planting gardens.
• And much more!
Pray… Think… Act…
These simple yet powerful words sum up the mission of St. Andrew’s church:
Pray…
We are a worshiping community, dedicated to deepening our relationship with God and Jesus Christ.
Think…
We are a questioning community, actively exploring both our faith and our doubt.
Act…
We are a social justice community, serving as God’s hands in this world.
Join us on our journey to a closer relationship with God and Jesus Christ. Our doors are open to all.
