St. George's Scholar Institute

St. George's Scholar Institute, located at 26th and Oak Street, was founded in conjunction with the reopening of the neighboring St. George’s Episcopal Church. We offer several after-school programs that are designed to prepare students for college, teach leadership skills, and explore different genres of careers. On a daily basis, we provide homework help and organized recreational activities.

Our programs include:

The Mirror, Mirror Program: The main focus is to help our youth become better leaders, including components such as community service projects, goal setting, and the Teen Advisory Board.

The Jack Geary College Readiness Program: This program helps youth with college/post secondary endeavors by providing resources such as college tours, scholarship searches, assistance with admission and FAFSA processes, and ACT/SAT prep.

The Flashing Lights Program: Students are introduced to explore different genres of creative careers such as music and/or music production, engineering, photography, graphic design, fashion, and much more.

Freedom School: Partnered with the Children’s Defense Fund, this is a six-week intensive literary program hosted by St. George’s during the summer months. Components include “Harambee” sessions, integrated reading curriculum, and life skills enrichment activities. In fact, we have been ranked as a ‘Top 5’ site out of 153 sites around the country!
