St. James City is a census-designated place (CDP) on Pine Island in Lee County, Florida, United States. The population was 4,105 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Cape Coral-Fort Myers, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area.GeographySt. James City is located at (26.536435, -82.091505).According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 14.8sqmi, of which 14.6sqmi is land and 0.2sqmi (1.15%) is water.DemographicsAs of the census of 2000, there were 4,105 people, 2,138 households, and 1,417 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 281.1 people per square mile (108.6/km²). There were 2,921 housing units at an average density of 200.0/sq mi (77.2/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 98.95% White, 0.10% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.27% Asian, 0.15% from other races, and 0.39% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.76% of the population.There were 2,138 households out of which 7.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.4% were married couples living together, 2.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% were non-families. 28.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.92 and the average family size was 2.28.
