More about St James United Methodist Church Raleigh

Visitors to St. James...

... will find that we are a welcoming congregation - from our greeters and ushers to the person sitting next to you in the pew.

... are invited to coffee hour in the church lobby at the conclusion of the 8:30 service and prior to the 11:00 service. Coffee hour is a wonderful opportunity to relax and meet others.

... are invited to use the nursery if your child is 3-years-old or younger. We have nurseries throughout Sunday morning for those attending worship and Sunday School. Children are registered in the nursery by their accompanying adult, and are then released only to that adult. Greeters and ushers will be happy to show you to the appropriate nursery for your child.

... are invited to visit in with Sunday School classes during the Sunday School hour. All of our classes enjoy having visitors and will make you feel welcome. Class locations are posted in the lobby near the coffee!

... who are between 4 and 7-years-old are invited to participate in Children's Church at the 11:00 hour. As children leave the Sanctuary immediately following the children's message, please talk with your child prior to the service about whether they will return to you or will go to Children's Church.

... will find that St. James welcomes all, regardless of cultural background or age. While there is a wide variety in the clothing choices made by worshippers, the majority of those worshipping on Sunday morning are dressed in business casual style.

... are invited to participate in the Sacrament of Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month. Church membership is not required in order to participate, because United Methodists believe that the Table is God's Table. We ask all those who come forward to receive communion to come with expectant hearts, asking God to draw them closer to God through the sacrament. St. James uses grape juice in communion rather than wine.

... will see that at St. James, every person makes a difference. We are a church in which every person is needed, and every person is invited to participate in ministry in the way God has called them to serve. Ours is not a staff-driven, nor clergy-driven church, but a church in which we all serve.
- Rev. Kim Lamb

St. James UMC has worship services in two styles over three services each Sunday morning. Our traditional style worship is held at 8:30 and 11:00 each week in the Sanctuary.
Common Thread, our nontraditional worship service, is held on Sunday mornings at 9:45 in Carson Hall.
