St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church is the oldest Black church west of Chicago. Founded in 1862, SJC is at the caring end of ministry. The Rev. Jesse D. Hawkins, Jr serves as senior pastor under the leadership of Bishop John R. Bryant of the 4th Episcopal District of the AME Church. The SJC Music Ministry is under the direction by Rev. Anthony B. Vinson, Sr.
