More about St. John Fisher School

St. John Fisher School was founded in 1961, under the title of St. Peter of Alcantara.

The Daughters of Mary and Joseph joined Monsignor Thomas J. McCarthy in the administration of the school. Classes were held in temporary quarters on the Mary and Joseph Novitiate grounds.

Early in 1962, the newly established parish was placed under the patronage of St. John Fisher, and the name of the school was changed accordingly.

The permanent school was completed in 1962, with an enrollment of 422 pupils in sixteen classrooms. The Sisters of Rolling Hills joined the faculty in 1964, and were part of the staff until 1977. Peak enrollment of 654 students was reached in 1965, when the school had two classes of each grade, from first through eighth. In 1969, the process of changing from single classes for each grade was begun. In 1970, due to a shortage of personnel, the Daughters of Mary and Joseph withdrew from the school , and the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary accepted administration of the school. In September, 1994, a Kindergarten was established, and in 1998, a two phase program was set in place to enlarge the classrooms and create a computer station in each classroom. This was completed in 1999. The Immaculate Heart Sisters administered the school until 2000 at which time a lay principal was appointed.
